Bristol City Supporters Trust’s 30,000-strong petition for a new football stadium was hand delivered to the Bristol Council House in June 2011 to help demonstrate the level of support for the new stadium.
Within its first three weeks of opening on the Bristol City Council website the petition became the biggest-ever online appeal.
The previous record belonged to the 2008 campaign to stop the Bristol-Bath railway path from becoming a bus route, with 10,206 people signing up to the e-petition through the Council’s website.
The petition topped its target of a signature for each seat in the proposed new stadium in March with a final total of 30,160 when it closed. This included 13,281 online and 16,879 on paper.
