Our friends at Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust have reached out to us in regards to Bristol City supporters taking part in the ongoing boycott of food & drink sold at Hillsborough
Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust (SWST) are continuing their campaign to protest the mismanagement & ownership of their club. Bristol City Supporters Club & Trust share the view that football clubs belong to their communities and supporters are the principal stakeholder.
Ahead of the Sky Bet Championship fixture between Sheffield Wednesday & Bristol City at Hillsborough on Saturday September 13th 2025 (KO 3pm), SWST have asked that Bristol City supporters show solidarity by not spending any money on food & drink inside Hillsborough – a continuing boycott started by Sheffield Wednesday supporters to defund the club’s current ownership.
SWST have advised the SC&T of the following alternative food & drink options available for away supporters before they arrive to Hillsborough:
- New Barrack Tavern, 601 Penistone Road, Sheffield S6 2GA
Located on the city side of the ground, The Barracks is always popular amongst both home and away fans. It is a traditional, multi-room pub, with a sizeable beer garden. It serves a wide range of ales (including real ales) and is also an award-winning cider pub. Pizza is available pre-match. It is around three quarters of a mile’s walk from here to the ground and is on the same road, so it’s a straight walk. If people are parking on the Morrisons car park, the Barracks is just a short walk back along Penistone Road from there. - The Railway, 19 Penistone Road North, Sheffield S6 1LP
Located on the north side of the ground, the Railway is another pub known to be welcoming of away fans. The Railway serves real ales and also provides match day food. This pub is around half a mile from the ground on the same road as the ground - Sportsman Inn, 183 Worrall Road, Sheffield S6 4BB
The Sportsman is around a mile’s walk from the ground, and serves pre-match food. - Horse and Jockey, 250 Wadsley Lane, Sheffield S6 4EF
Recommended local pub, just over half a mile from the ground - The Wellington, 1 Henry Street, Sheffield S3 7EQ
Just an idea for people going to the ground by tram. You can get off en-route at the Shalesmoor tram stop; you can see the pub from the tramstop. You will need to make sure that you leave enough time to jump back onto the tram, where Leppings Lane is six stops further on. The Wellington does food in the form of sandwiches, and they are also happy for people to bring their own food in. It is known for its wide range of real ales and a very traditional atmosphere.
SWST have also advised that they will be joining in a protest organised by the 1867 Group, where Sheffield Wednesday supporters will be holding up black & gold scarves on the 10th minute of the game. More information is provided below
